About the Project
TeleShort is a short-form video streaming platform built for independent content creators in the US market who wanted an alternative to algorithm-dependent platforms like TikTok and YouTube Shorts. The founder observed that creators were increasingly frustrated with platform dynamics: unpredictable algorithms that buried content, shrinking monetization shares, and zero control over their relationship with viewers. TeleShort offers a creator-first alternative where content is surfaced based on quality and viewer preference rather than engagement-bait algorithms. The platform supports video upload, adaptive bitrate streaming for smooth playback across network conditions, creator monetization through subscriptions and tips, and audience analytics that give creators genuine insight into what resonates with their viewers.
The Challenge
Technical challenges
Building scalable video infrastructure with adaptive bitrate streaming that worked smoothly on varying mobile network conditions. The content delivery pipeline needed to handle upload, transcoding, and delivery with minimal latency. Concurrent streaming to thousands of viewers needed to remain smooth under load.
Business challenges
Creators were trapped in a cycle of algorithm dependence - their content reach was determined by opaque platform decisions, not audience demand. Building a competing platform required solving the cold-start problem: attracting enough creators to make the platform worth visiting, and enough viewers to make it worth creating for.
Product & UX challenges
Designing a video consumption experience that felt as smooth and addictive as TikTok while offering meaningfully better creator tools. The viewer feed needed to be endlessly scrollable with instant playback, while the creator dashboard needed to surface actionable analytics - not just vanity metrics.

Discovery & platform strategy
Defined the creator-first positioning, identified the specific features that would differentiate from algorithm-driven platforms, and mapped the video pipeline architecture. Scoped the MVP around the core loop: upload → discover → watch → engage → monetize.

Designed the dual experience: a viewer feed optimized for endless, frictionless video consumption, and a creator dashboard focused on actionable metrics and content management. The feed design prioritized instant playback, smooth scrolling, and natural engagement actions.

Cross-platform development
Built for web and mobile simultaneously with shared business logic. Integrated MUX for video processing and adaptive streaming, Stripe and RevenueCat for creator monetization, and AWS for scalable content delivery. The transcoding pipeline was designed to process uploads and deliver stream-ready content with minimal delay.

Testing & launch
Load-tested the streaming infrastructure with simulated concurrent viewers, validated adaptive bitrate switching across network conditions, tested the complete creator-to-viewer pipeline end-to-end, and launched with an initial cohort of creators for controlled scaling.
